The award winning Peppermill Hotel and Casino in Reno Nevada, has been selected as the location for the 1st Western Regional Dog Powered Sports Conference, being held in conjunction with the 2007 Annual Meeting of the International Sled Dog Racing Association. This year, the conference is being planned and hosted by the non-profit Fourteen Angels Foundation, Inc. with special support by the Sierra Nevada Dog Drivers, Inc.
Special guests and presenters scheduled at this time include world renowned musher Lance Mackey, this year’s winner of both the Iditarod and Yukon Quest Sled Dog Races; Steven Lindsay, IFSS Champion from Dog Sport Scotland, now helping to plan a nationwide trails system in Scotland; sprint racers Helen Lundberg, Egil Ellis, Lou Serre and more; a full program on the rising sport of dryland racing competition, urban mushing, and canicross (run with your dog); canine health, nutrition, well-being and mobility; GPS and Compass classes and winter sport safety with Dave Hess from REI; educational and extra curricular events of special interest to educators and the entire family…and much, much more.
The program is far ranging and will have something of interest for almost everyone. We encourage educators interested in teaching the Iditarod Program in schools, beginning and advanced competitors, and those interested in all aspects of canine sport and training, fitness, health, and well-being to participate.
